The job
A monster old cedar stump.
This was one of the larger individual stumps we've tackled.
The old cedar measured around 6 ft across, with a substantial amount of timber still sitting above ground after the tree had been felled.
Before we could start grinding, the stump needed to be reduced to remove the excess timber and give the stump grinder a better working height.
The work

We started by cutting the cedar stump down with a chainsaw, removing as much of the remaining timber as practical.
Once reduced, we brought in the Bandit SG-40 and worked across the stump, gradually grinding away the main stump and root plate.
With a stump of this size, there's a lot more material to process than the diameter alone suggests, but reducing it first meant the grinder could get straight into the main body of the stump.
The result
6 ft of cedar. Gone.
Once the stump had been ground out, the whole area was left as a bed of fresh wood chippings where the cedar stump used to be.
We raked the remaining grindings back over the area and left the garden clear and tidy, ready for the next stage of the project.
